The Strollers Round Up

The strollers round up gives you the latest on-going’s at Christie Gillies Park. The games have been thick and fast to the start of the season and some may say they have been weighted in our favour, but it is the way they have been given to us and accommodating a few game changes is good sportsmanship.

After a good preseason, some faces depart and new faces arrive, this season has started with some pace against last season’s top table teams, and we have done ourselves proud with the start we have had.

Civil Service Strollers v Rangers FC B Team: 3-1

Our game against Rangers was a great 3 points in the bag against a full time team full of international players. Setting the bar high on the opening game of the season was always going to be hard to maintain.

Civil Service Strollers v Gala Fairydean Rovers: 1-3

Our next game against Gala saw us be defeated in a game that we never turned up for. Manager Jardine said to the Edinburgh Evening News “I didn’t think they looked like they were going to score in the first half, so I’m really disappointed with a lot of aspects of the first goal. The second goal was a good finish and then the third one is a bit of magic”.

Civil Service Strollers v Open Goal Broomhill FC: 3-1

Moving onto the next game coming to us at pace and a home fixture against the newly reformed Open Goal Broomhill FC who are under new management and led by Open Goal podcaster Si Ferry brought a lot of welcomed hype around the game. Racing out the traps Broomhill looked like they had The Strollers under the cosh for the first 20 minutes and scoring first to put the pressure on the home team. Stepping up to the challenge The Strollers bounced back and scoring a well worked goal to make sure the three points were staying at Christie Gilles.

Civil Service Strollers v Celtic FC B Team: 0-2

A midweek rearranged fixture saw us host Celtic under the lights at Christie Gillies Park. A well organised team of full time international players who played some neat football. Strollers never let this phase them with a clear penalty claim denied, Robbie Cole missing the net and Innes Lawson missing a great chance to put goals on The Strollers side which would have shaped things up differently in the first half. Not taking our chances unfortunately came back to haunt us when Celtic found the net.

Heart of Midlothian FC B Team v Civil Service Strollers

Our next challenge comes against the league new comers, Heart of Midlothian FC B Team this Saturday 6th August at Ferguson Park with a 3pm kick off. This will be our first away fixture and we know Hearts will give us a good game.

Civil Service Strollers v Bo’ness Athletic

We arrive back at Christie Gillies Park to face The East of Scotland side Bo’ness Athletic in the second round of the EOS Qualifying Cup. Tickets are available to buy from Fanbase on Tuesday 9th August 2022 with a 19:45 kick off.

Thank you for reading The Strollers Round Up and we look forward to welcoming you to Christie Gillie Park. We are looking forward to playing our first away fixture this weekend. Follow the team and support the lads home and away!

We welcome the Open Goal Broomhill FC team to The Strollers this weekend, it isn’t the first time that Broomhill have played here nor is it the first time their new manager Si Ferry has played here as we faced his old team Peterhead in the third round of the Scottish Cup last season. With Si and his boy band of merry men taking over the newly rebranded Broomhill, this has brought lots of welcomed hype to the league and we look forward to welcoming the committee, coaches, players and fans to Christie Gillies Park for this fixture.

Galbraith Upset's Strollers At Home

Galbraith Upset’s Strollers At Home

Galbraith upset’s Strollers at home in the second game of the season. Confidence was high at the Strollers following Friday night’s 2-1 victory over Rangers B in the Lowland League curtain-raiser.

But Gary Jardine’s men were never at the races against Gala and, after a goalless opening 45 minutes, a Gala corner opened the scoring within a minute of the restart, Galbraith’s in-swinger causing mayhem in the six-yard box and Allan Smith claiming the final touch to make it one to the visitors.

Nine minutes later it was two for the visitors as skipper Gareth Rodger got his name on the scoresheet with a neat finish. But the best strike of the night arrived on the hour when Galbraith, who was the best player on the park, pinged a 25-yard effort into the top corner leaving Strollers keeper picking the ball out the net.

Strollers huffed and puffed with Jardine making a raft of changes from the bench in a bid to mount a late comeback.

And although substitute Jonathan Moffat did find a consolation with a couple of minutes to spare, the hosts got what they deserved.

Jardine told Edinburgh Evening News afterwards: “The guys were a bit leggy after the Rangers game but I’m not using that as an excuse as Gala were the better side.

“I didn’t think they looked like they were going to score in the first half, so I’m really disappointed with a lot of aspects of the first goal. The second goal was a good finish and then the third one is a bit of magic.

“Galbraith played really well. As much as Marc Laird is a good player, his work was done a lot deeper. They’ve both played at the highest level. We just lacked that bit of quality in the final third”

“But all in all, it was a disappointing night. We’ve just got to get ready for the weekend now against Open Goal Broomhill FC

A Good Preseason Comes To An End

A Good Preseason Comes To An End – By Strollers News

A good preseason comes to an end, as the curtain closes on preseason for the strollers, we now look forward to welcoming Rangers FC B Team as the opening game of the season at Christie Gillies Park.

With the new signings added to the existing player base, the strollers have added experience into the youthful squad for the upcoming season. The recruitment for the new season has been great and Gary and his coaching team have done well to add the players they have. Gary said “As normal at this time of year there have been comings and going however we are delighted with the recruitment me have made and hopefully can continue to improve on the field as much as the committee/club are doing off. If you have kept up to date on social media you know by now our captain for the last few years has moved on and we wish Sparky, along with the other players who have left all the very best. Taking over the arm band is Ross Guthrie. Guff is someone I’ve known for 13 years now and more importantly than my trust, he’s someone the players trust likewise and will be fantastic in the role and also help to move us forward”.
