Civil took all three points against Edinburgh University – despite playing most of the second half with ten men after James Hainey was red carded.

Gary Jardine’s men went into Saturday’s game on the back of a 2-0 defeat to Stirling Uni in midweek.

Civil were quick out the trap and their attacking play was causing all sorts of the problems for the students.

They we finally rewarded with a goal from new signing, Ross Guthrie, who got on the end of a James Hainey cross and his header sent the keeper the wrong way and the ball nestled in the net.

Hainey was next up to have a go and after a tricky run he fired in a shot from the edge of the box which left keeper, Callum Davison, rooted but the ball hit the post before the danger was cleared.

Scott Clapperton was next up to try and double Civil’s lead and his shot beat the keeper, but a defender managed to get a foot in the way and the ball went over the bar.

Civil doubled their lead on the stroke of half time when they were awarded a penalty after Robbie Laird was fouled in the box. Loan striker, Cammy Muirhead, stepped up and fired the ball into the net.

Minutes into the second half match referee, Alex Shepherd, sent Hainey packing for a challenge on Mark Gair.

With a man advantage the Uni started to get into the game and they produced chances, with fifteen minutes to go they pulled one back through Abdul Yusuf.

Civil youngster, Johnny Devers, came on late in the game and sealed the victory after a great run from Iain Ballantyne before he played in Devers who rolled the ball into the net to secure all three points for the north Edinburgh men.
