Blue Toon Beat Strollers In Third Round
Peterhead earned their place in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup after an incident packed 90 minutes in north Edinburgh as they overcame a gritty Civil Service Strollers side.
The game got underway and the young Strollers started fast out the traps. With three corners for the hosts within the first ten minutes it was looking like the Civil had Peterhead on the ropes. Unfortunially the home side’s hopes of causing an upset were dashed on the half hour mark when Joao Balde received a red card for a reckless challenge, reducing the strollers to ten men. Peterhead now had a player advantage and were thrown a lifeline just before half time when referee Chris Graham pointed to the spot with keeper Mac Whyte saving the penalty, keeping the score line at 0-0 and giving the hosts a boost for the second half.
The second half got underway and another penalty was awarded in the 55th minute after the Strollers keeper had upended McLean, was converted by the Peterhead striker McLean and Brown atoned for his miss by firing home to make it 2-0 shortly afterwards. The young strollers left everything they had on the pitch and thought until the final whistle, but when substitute Lyall Cameron made it 3-0 at the death with a close range effort, there was no way back no for the home team.
